'Summertime and the living is easy’.
Well it’s supposed to be. Not every person or every family has that luxury which is why we are so thankful and blessed that Gilead House is a pillar in the community to help homeless moms and their families get back on their feet, educated and back into the workforce.
Now that summer is here I am thrilled to welcome our new moms and families into our 2021 program this month! The hallways are filled with laughter, excitement and most importantly – an abundance of hope.
At Gilead House we change lives through education and empowerment. We strive every day to help, encourage and provide a safe, healthy environment with absolutely no boundaries to success.
We could not do any of it without all of you and your amazing generosity. Thank you. Thank you so much. You mean the world to our moms and families. It is my amazing privilege to be Gilead House’s Executive Director. I welcome you to stop by and see all of the amazing things we are doing.
Feel free to call email or text to make an appointment. I’d love to show you around, meet our staff and share with you all the incredible new things we’re doing to empower our 2021 moms.
Be safe, be well and thank you,
Carrie Scrimshire, Executive Director
Last month we introduced you to GH mom, Capri. Well, we have an exciting story to share with you about Capri. Our friends Carrie Lee and Larry Curtis at Rotary Club of Ignacio are always looking out for the moms of Gilead House, and they tipped off Executive Director, Carrie Scrimshire, about a scholarship opportunity coming up that Capri was eligible for. She is recognized by her counselors, peers, relatives and community leaders as a remarkable young lady. Capri has overcome so much in her life, and being true to who she is, she persevered and funneled her energy into finding a new life for her family when she found life to be tough.
Capri’s college counselor stated, “Capri is a dynamic, personable, extremely motivated, has a heart of gold, enormously optimistic and an enthusiastic learner who has solid, and achievable educational and career goals. To add to her list of attributes, Capri is uniquely unique”.
It is because of these incredible accomplishments, her strong character, and bright attitude that she went into her scholarship interview and was quickly notified after that she was their winner. She has been awarded $2,000 dollars to be used where she feels it will be most helpful for her. After careful thought, she decided to buy the sensible car that she has been saving for! Capri and her daughter have been using the bus as their only source of transportation, so this is very exciting for them. And the even better news is that thanks to the generosity of Rotary Club of Ignacio and the efforts of Carrie Lee and Larry Curtis, Capri will not be going into debt to get her car, which was very important to her.
Capri’s future is amazingly bright as she strives to be a business owner someday in the restaurant arena. Safe transportation to school and work is a major step towards her greatest goal. Thank you Rotary Club of Ignacio for inspiring and empowering Gilead House moms!
Can you believe it's already back to school time?! We can't either. And while we are sad to see summer go, we are excited to get our families ready for back to school!
Help Gilead House provide our families with new backpacks with grade-appropriate school supplies, full outfits that include shirts, pants, coat, socks, and underwear, as well as new shoes. Supporting our families in this way not only relieves some stress for our moms, but it helps our kids begin the school year feeling confident, secure, and ready to learn.
Your generous gift will go directly to purchasing these necessities. Simply select the items that correspond with your preferred donation amount to add them to your cart.
$15 buys socks and underwear
$25 buys a backpack
$35 buys a winter coat
$45 buys a pair of shoes
$100 buys an entire outfit
On behalf of the Gilead House moms and kids, thank you for your generosity!
We would like to introduce you to two of Gilead House’s behind-the-scenes leaders, Michelle Parsley and Mike Schalich.
Both Board members have made major contributions to Gilead House’s past and present success. After many years of service to Gilead House through their influential work on the Board of Directors, and in countless other capacities (some that I’m sure they weren’t expecting), their terms are both coming to an end. We wanted to take this opportunity to honor both of them, to give you a glimpse of the work that they have been doing, and to say a very special thank you!
You're invited to an exciting afternoon of competition! Players of all skill levels are welcome. Attendees will get lunch, drinks, the chance to win some amazing raffle prizes, and to hear from a current Gilead House mom.
With your support, Gilead House will continue to inspire hope and empower homeless moms!

A few weeks ago, we sent out a volunteer request for some folks to help us clean up our backyard to get it ready for our new families to move in and be able to use it and play in it and your response what amazing! Within 10 minutes of the email going out, we have 40 responses! It is so encouraging to know that you haven't forgotten us and that you are still ready and excited to help!
