We would like to introduce you to our new friends Don McCardell and his wife Donna. Don became connected to Gilead House during the holidays when he prepared an incredible Thanksgiving Dinner for our families. When he delivered the food, he mentioned to our staff that he would like to return to encourage the Gilead House Women with God’s Word.
When Don returned, he shared his testimony of growing up in Oakland, being homeless, feeling helpless, hopeless, and scared, and ultimately crying out to the Lord and asking Him to be his Rescuer.
“I learned that being homeless is very challenging. When I acknowledged Jesus, I instantly felt His presence. When I spoke to Him I felt His love and protection in many dangerous situations. While being homeless, Jesus was always there. Just me and Him. I felt secure. I felt a calmness and comfort”
As Don shared his story, our moms were on the edge of their seats. They felt so seen and understood. He related to them in a way that very few can, and that meant the world to them. This was his encouragement for them, and perhaps all of us:
“He is a God of second chances, His mercies are brand new each day. He is a God of hope, peace, love, protection and purpose and He has plans to prosper you and not harm you. When you go through the fire, it will not consume you and when you go through the rivers of difficulty, it will not overtake you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”
We are so grateful to Don and Donna for coming to Gilead House and being an encouragement to our moms. They are still buzzing about how special this was for them and how it has left a lasting impact. This is how lives are changed and moms are empowered.
