“I’ve learned that in order to achieve your goals, you have to be persistent.”
- Children: 14 year old son and 8 year old daughter
- Profession: Nanny
- Time at Gilead House: 4 months
Like many women, Mary became homeless after deciding to leave an abusive relationship. Her need for safety finally overshadowed the many obstacles that initially kept her with her abuser. With incredible courage, she and her two children left for a better life.
“I discovered there is help out there.”
Finding safe and stable housing at Gilead House has been huge for Mary. Once her housing was secure, she was able to take a risk and quit her low paying job in order to look for something better. In short time, she found a new job as a nanny and is now earning over $500 a month more than at her previous employment.
The Life Skills program is equipping and inspiring Mary to become financially stable. Without the added anxiety caused by homelessness, she is focused on improving her personal finances, increasing her education, and becoming self-sufficient.
The journey for Mary and her children is not over. The path to self-sufficiency is long and requires persistence and determination. Will you join her on this journey? Your love and support are critical to her success. You make this happen. You can change the course of Mary’s life as well as her children’s.
