Volunteer of the week: Gilead House’s Alice Pidgeon

Residence: San Rafael

Agency: Volunteering at Gilead House is a special opportunity to serve homeless single moms and children while increasing awareness and compassion for those in need in the community. Mentor volunteers are critical to the Gilead House program. They are matched with a resident mom to provide support, guidance and accountability to help her reach the goal of financial stability and independence.

Quote: Executive Director, Renee Scott says, “Alice is a fabulous mentor to a Gilead House mom with three children. She has been a friend, counsellor, and guide to the family. Most recently, she helped the teenage daughter apply to college and win a scholarship to get there. Alice has learned that trust and patience are essential to the mentoring process and she has shared laughter, tears, and stories along the way. Alice is making a difference one life at a time, helping homeless moms and their kids along the road to financial stability and independence.”
